Elaine Xydis Lipka

In 2021, the perjury prosecution of President Bill Clinton is a distant memory. More than 20 years have passed since Clinton was accused of lying to the public and other government officials about his sexual relationship with then-intern Monica Lewinsky. Today, we know how this trial played out — both in the media and for President Clinton. But we often do not know about those individuals who brought the impeachment verdict to life. Elaine Lipka was one of those people.

Back in 1997, Elaine Xydis Lipka was an integral part of building the case against President Clinton. At the time, she was a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This is a career that Lipka has held since 1991 following related experience and education. Lipka became a member of the team of FBI agents who worked directly underneath Special Prosector Ken Starr on the case. Lipka’s role in the perjury investigation was to examine more than 20 tapes of conversations that occurred between Linda Tripp and Lewisnky, and decipher whether or not the latter was being truthful in what she shared. Lipka listened through the tapes extensively and reported to Starr that Lewinsky was, indeed, being honest about the sexual relationship transpiring between herself the President. This was a pivotal development early in the case and it happened because of Elaine Lipka.
